BIO

Mariya Pavlenko is a visual artist from Kyiv, Ukraine, currently located in Kyiv, Ukraine and Wroclaw, Poland. Pavlenko graduated from MFA program “Art in Public Space and New Artistic Strategies” at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in 2017 and Kyiv-Mohyla Academy in 2007.

In 2022 she participated in the exhibition “Focus Europe II+III” at Schafhof - Europäisches Künstlerhaus Oberbayern and ph0n0l0gues at Belvedere am Kreuzberg, Berlin.

In 2021 Pavlenko participated in the projects X Book Arsenal Book Fair in Kyiv, “Bibliothek der Künstlerinnen, Weimar” (pop-up events in the public space of Weimar), “Attempt of contact”, Viktor Marushchenko Photo School, Mala gallery of Mystetskyi Arsenal, Kyiv, as well as in the residence at Schafhof - Europäisches Künstlerhaus Oberbayern.

In 2020 she took part in online residence ARTEFACT: CHOrnobyl x MADATAC XI.

In 2019 Pavlenko participated in Wroclaw Drawing Triennial at BWA Wroclaw Glowny and group show “Recontexts of history” at Mala gallery of Mystetskyi Arsenal.

As a student of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in 2015-2017 she completed a performance “Erfahrung” at Goethe National Museum; took part in group projects "(un)sounds of Buchenwald", Gedenkstätte Buchenwald, Weimar and Momentum Gallery, Berlin, "Tomorrow we will explain", public space/Kunsthaus Dresden, Dresden, "Kultursymposium Goethe Institut Weimar 2016", Weimar.

In 2015 Pavlenko took part in “The School of Kyiv” Biennial, curated by Austrian curators Hedwig Saxenhuber and Georg Schöllhammer. In the period from 2010 till 2015 she took part in numerous shows at different venues in Kyiv, Ukraine, among which are Mystetskyi Arsenal, Small Gallery of Mystetskyi Arsenal, Modern Art Research Institute, Ya-gallery, Bottega gallery, Labgarage gallery, Lavra gallery, Olena Zamostyan gallery, Mygallery, pidWALL gallery and outside of Ukraine, among which are MOCAK, Krakow, Poland, Künstlerhaus, Vienna, Austria and Ukrainian institute of contemporary art in Chicago, USA.

In 2013 Pavlenko was nominated for Henkel Art.Award. In 2012 she received grant from i3 foundation in Ukraine and completed personal project “Snow City” in Kyiv, Ukraine at different venues: Small gallery of Mystetskyi Arsenal, Teplozvykoizolyatsiya plant and Main Astronomical Observatory of Ukraine. In 2010 she was nominated for MUHI award - competition for young Ukrainian artists.
